Prince William - The Jewel of Nokesville

Back to the links for another 36 hole Saturday, this time at different courses.  My first stop was to the Jewel of Nokesville, Prince William Golf Course for an astonishingly early 7:20AM tee time.

Date: Saturday 5/17/2014
Location: Prince William Golf Course, Nokesville, VA
Score: 80
Excuses: Other than it being early, none
Course Conditions: Amazing.  Greens rolled extremely well and true, fairways were in great shape, rough was not very penal.  Bunkers and other hazards in good shape.
        The Good: Another solid birdie.
The Bad: Three Jack from 10 feet on 9th hole
The Ugly: Inability to hit a consistent 7 iron

I don't know why I keep knocking this course.  Maybe I inherited my previous scorn from the course snobs I used to hang out with.  This isn't the hardest or longest course in the DC area.  In fact the tips measure at a scant 6,367 yards.  The fairway are generous, the rough is not as penal, and the greens are not lightning fast.  To golfers looking for a "test of golf" or a beating, this is not the place for you.  But if you're in to good conditions, a fair layout, and genuinely nice people, you've come to the right place.  I was very surprised at how great the course conditions were and the fact the cart rule of the day was 90 degrees even though there was a lot of rain over the past couple of days.  Even though the group in front of us had one of the worst starts I've ever seen (delayed our start time by 9 minutes), my group and I finished our round in just over 4 hours.

Every single employee was extremely nice.  From the starter, who actually drove up to the driving range to let me know my tee time was approaching, to the Pro Shop employee who after my round, approached me, and called me by name and asked how my round went.  He was on his way out to meet up with his wife and in-laws, but I really appreciated how he took the time to ask about my round.  Not to mention the typically attractive cart girl.  My only complaint, I only saw her once.

The best part of the day, when the round was over, they fired up the grill and were slinging great hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages.  It was a beautiful day and I sat on the deck after my round and really felt at peace.

Usually the worst scores in golf are (depending on your level) 110, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60.  Which means you missed a milestone by a single stroke.  But at this point, I didn't care.  I know I left some strokes on the course but, overall I really enjoyed myself and achieved the goal of golf, to have fun.

ON TO THE NEXT ROUND!

Next Stop:  Virginia Oaks
