Coronavirus Diaries - Day 67: Good Friends and the Return of Golf!

Hello Friends,

Some exciting news in the world of golf. But first a shout out to my good friend, best man, and godfather of my son and his lovely wife for driving all the way from Washington DC to deliver some delectable confections (Courtesy of the Rose Avenue Bakery) to the wifey and me for our birthdays / anniversary!

Ube Brioche with Ube Butter, Guava Pie, and Passion Fruit Donut (Nom Nom Nom)
Honestly the world is a better place with Hino and Donna in it. But somehow everyone else will be about 10 pounds heavier if they keep this up :).

So two exciting things things in the world of golf. The Match II featuring Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, a G.O.A.T. and a retired QB. Hopefully it is a lot better than the first match. Maybe Tiger and Phil can learn to loosen up a little bit and have fun instead of treating this like life or death... But you don't have to twist my arm to watch Tiger Woods in action... 3:00 PM, be there or be square!

The other exciting thing, the return of Harry Sherman to the golf course! This coming week I will tee it up at Laurel Hill. My last official round was October 18, 2019, (scrambles don't count). So I'm pretty stoked. Hopefully I'll keep my expectations in check and just be happy to be out there. There will be a part of me that still expects to shoot in the 70s but I'll consider it a victory if I break 90. Is a birdie or two too much to ask? (Probably but won't stop me from trying!)

And in other updates:

Latest Binges:

1) Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist - Finished Season 1, loved it. Waiting impatiently for Season 2. It's like a Bollywood film in American, starring computer programmers who happen to be able to sing. Only the dance numbers aren't as long and there's some great ups and downs.

2) When the Camellia Blooms - Yet another Korean drama... In my opinion, it is not as impressive as Crash Landing on You, Hyena, or Kingdom. Also, as a man who was raised by a single mother, I found the treatment of the main character (single mom) offensive and the disposition of the main character completely dissatisfying. I don't know whether it is a cultural manifestation, but I needed some strength and sass out of the single mom but there was an abundance of weakness and deference that I did not care for. I continued watching for the story line (serial killer!!) as the characters were quite grating.

3) Sweet Magnolia - I think a critic described this show as "Sex in the City for Virgins." It is definitely a Hallmark Channel style light and "homey" drama but features interracial relationships (unlike the Hallmark Channel). It takes place in a small southern town (South Carolina or Georgia) called Serenity and there is anything but serenity among its three main characters. Despite the strong acting of the three female leads of the show, what actually kept me watching was Chris Klein. Yeah, that guy from American Pie! He has a train wreck of a Southern accent (he is from Illinois after all) and plays a philandering doctor. Mostly I'm fascinated by the fact that I had not seen him in a movie since Here on Earth (2000!) and he got old! (as old as a 41 year old can be). Although according to IMDB, he did play Orlin Dwyer / Cicada on The Flash for the last couple of years.

Until next time everyone! Stay safe and get some fresh air (from a safe distance)!
