Coronavirus Diaries: Day 1 & 2

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Considering this is my second post of the year, I'm way behind on my resolution to post more. But thanks to a certain pandemic, I will definitely have more time to write, or at least more time to spend in front of a computer at home that can open Blogger...

If there has ever been a year where a rewind or fast forward button was needed, this is that year...

So many terrible things (and a couple of good things) have happened since the year began that it would completely fill this blog entry (and March isn't even over yet!). But Wikipedia has done all the hard work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020

When 9/11 hit, at least we had sports to get our minds off the madness, anger, fear, and trepidation. With the Coronavirus, there are no sports to get our minds off the crushing reality of the pandemic.

But admittedly, it is rather entertaining to watch ESPN scramble to fill the airwaves with sports content when no new games are taking place. ESPN is thanking their lucky stars for NFL free agency right now. That's a good month or so of mindless conjecture and passionate arguments that are sure to affect my fantasy rankings in the near future. At least until the NFL draft...

A special shout out to Tom Terrific and his new life in Tampa Bay. But a bigger shout out to (Saint) Nick Foles and his new gig in the Windy City. Also, what the heck were the Texans thinking when they shipped off DeAndre Hopkins for David Johnson (and the draft pick)?? Time will tell I guess but Kyler Murray has just jumped up my draft board, especially having Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald to throw to, not to mention Kenyon Drake to hand the ball off to... Hopefully they stay a bit more under the radar than Cleveland last year...

On the golf front, all of the county golf courses (and their respective driving ranges) have closed temporarily and the only courses currently open are more than 20 miles away from here (so much for hitting a quick bucket for lunch). Also sadly all of the Top Golf centers have closed, and the ultimate punch in the gut, Golf Galaxy is closed. Just when I was about to complete my new set... Looks like my new TaylorMade SIM Max 4 Wood will just have to wait.

I totally get that all of this is necessary to "flatten the curve" and not to overwhelm the already limited healthcare system, but speaking as an avid golfer, if there ever was an activity that screamed fresh air, good exercise (as long as you're walking) and social distancing, golf is the 1 overall seed (my quick ode to March Madness... Which should have started today).

But, despite the new realities of the day, there is still golf on the horizon for yours truly (pending CDC / WHO guidance). One week away (26 March 2020) from our Blind Bogey opening tournament at Reston National. It will be interesting how the tournament will play out with the Coronavirus regulations. But I'll definitely be walking and hopefully with some good friends I haven't seen in what seems like years.

Lastly a HUGE shout out to my wife, I know stay-at-home moms don't get the respect (or rest) they deserve but I wanted to show my appreciation for her immeasurable daily sacrifices. During this pandemic, I want to dedicate more time to help. The one benefit to telework is getting back 2 hours out of my day that I would have spent commuting. That's at least two more hours a day with my family... Too bad it took a global emergency...

So my daily thought will be, what good can we glean from this pandemic? Also, what will become the new normal once the pandemic passes?

But until then, back to the gym and back to the range (the ones I have constructed in my basement!!)
