Coronavirus Diaries Day 22 - So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!

Hello my friends and Happy Good Friday! Another week at home and another entry in the official (B)log book. In addition to Good Friday, it was supposed to be Cut Day at the Masters... We'll just have to wait until November. Until then, I'll have my net in the backyard. Sadly over the past few days there have been really annoying stiff winds that kept me inside doing my drills. Hopefully my swing plane has flattened out and my tempo has improved (not likely, but I can dream!)

But for the week in review:

1) Currently Binging: Hyena. After wifey and I finished watching the second season of Kingdom, we followed the actor who played one of my favorite characters (The Crown Prince) and we land in a totally different kind of series. Inside the world of high-powered lawyers and the high-profile clients they defend. Twists, turns, and agendas around every corner. Very compelling and worth the watch. Must like subtitles...

2) The End of an Era: After almost 10 years, I finally gave up my Verizon grandfathered unlimited plan (because I had 450 anytime minutes and only 1000 text messages per month, which I blew through in four days!!)... Meaning Verizon can now throttle me after I reach 22 GB of data use... But considering I'm now at home all day using WiFi and I haven't topped 22 GB in a month in over 5 years, it now makes sense... Also, after switching to a family plan, I'm actually saving a boatload of money and I have Disney+ for free for a year! Time to catch up on some Star Wars:
Now here's a man who excels at social distancing
3) The cataloging begins: While I have all this extra time on my hands (3 hours a day that I don't spend in traffic), it feels great to spend more time with my wife and son. But I've been dying to do something I never thought I'd be able to do. INVENTORY! I've always wanted to know how much crap I have in my storage rooms, office, closets, and golf bags. So now I'm making a few lists, checking them twice, and once the thrift stores open again, I'm making some donations!

4) The Last Great Fish Run: Made another trip to support another local business: Father and Son Seafood. On any other day (Super Bowl Sunday, any friday during Lent, etc.) I love the interaction with either the father or the son. The food is always fast and fresh and presented to you with a smile, a thank you, and some tartar sauce. But today, it was a nerve-wracking real-life drama. I should have known better to go into a small fish establishment on Good Friday, the last "meatless" day of Lent. The restaurant doesn't have tables (carryout only), but what it did have a lot of was customers. Ones that like to loiter around and wait for their food. In a small space... While other people are there... And no masks or gloves (or concern for anyone else's comfort, physical or mental).

Suffice to say, even though I called ahead and arrived a couple of minutes after my order was ready. I waited an additional 15 minutes for people to clear out of the restaurant before I went in. Usually the best part of the experience is the smiling old man handing you the food like a proud papa sharing pictures of his children. Sadly the coronavirus has robbed me of that too as the proprietor was in a mask (couldn't see his ever-present smile) and my food was already sealed in a plastic bag.

But good news, the food was still great! So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!

5) Read the Fine Print: I love my wife! Other than being an awesome mom and a workout fanatic, she is also a morning person (who doesn't drink coffee!). And she is a legit morning person, rolling out of bed at 3:00 AM to get stuff done around the house, catch up with her shows, and of course, exercise. Hard to believe she's up 4 hours before I even consider rolling out of bed... But that does have some drawbacks, especially when it's dark and you're still a little tired and you are trying to order something. Because our respective gyms are closed, we are slowly building our home gym in order to keep in shape. My wife wanted to order some new dumbells and found a great deal ($5!). So when the package came, there was only one pink dumbbell in the package. I'm guessing she didn't read the fine print that the weights came in sets of one... When she tried to order another weight, they were all sold out... So for an extended period of time, we will have the one sad, lonely pink weight in the weight rack.

Well that's about all for the week. Much love and many prayers to all of you who have to be out there in the scary world to keep your life where it is, and a few extra prayers to all of you who are on the precipice. Happy Easter, he is risen, so will we all rise from this.
